South Coast Area

Restaurants

Kan Eang

9/3 Chaofa Road

Tel: 381-212 381-323

Chalong Bay

Moderate

Is actually two restaurants a short distance apart. Both have excellent seafood at reasonable prices. Phuket is world famous for seafood and the two Kang Eang restaurants are among the very best on the island. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Kan Eang 2 is the nicer and more modern of the two restaurants but the original Kan Eang sets at the end of the pier at Chalong Bay and has a charm of its own. From the Chalong traffic circle, go east a few blocks to where the road ends at the Chalong pier. The rather nondescript building at the right is Kang Eang 1. You enter on the back side a few feet down from the corner. To get to Kan Eang 2 take the north spur from the Chalong traffic circle (the main road to Phuket), turn right on the first paved road and follow it to the end.

Jimmy’s Lighthouse

45/33 Chaofa Road

Chalong Bay

Moderate

Very popular with visitors arriving by yacht and anchoring in Chalong Bay and with the western expat community living in Phuket. Good solid selection of sandwiches, and hearty meals of both western and Thai food. One of the best cups of coffee on the island. Nightlife

Night life is quiet in the south but not too quiet. There is a string of Thai style beer-bars along the Karon- Kata beach road, and in the village of Karon. Tiana Road in little Kata village offers a number of places that offer a cold beer, good cocktails, and at times some hot entertainment. Try the Blue Fin Tavern and the Anchor Bar. For more refined tastes try the Wednesday and Sunday night Jazz music at the Boathouse Wine and Grill, and check with the Club-Med for there scheduled entertainment. The south is not as rowdy as Patong but there are plenty of places to go when the sun goes down.
